NAME

xfmdisplay − graphical tool to display fms sound files

SYNOPSIS

xfmdisplay [general options] [file options] [filename] ... [file options] [filename]

DESCRIPTION

This manual page documents the usage of the xfmdisplay command, which is part of the F Modular Synthesizer (fms).

xfmdisplay works basically like a multi-channel oszilloscope, that can display fms sound files (in fms file mode 1, 2 and 4). You can specify options such as frequency and volume of each file, but also modulation of these properties. xfmdisplay can also mix several fms sound objects and display the resulting graph.

GENERAL OPTIONS

−x xdim −y ydim

x and y dimension of output window; default is 300 pixels

−a

animated output

FILE OPTIONS

You can specify options for each fms sound file. Each command line argument not considered a switch or a parameter are considered a filename. All previously given file options will be applied to that file, all following to the next recognized filename (if existent).

−r repetitions

how many repetitions of the wave should be displayed; default is 1

−v volume

relative volume of specific sound; this only plays a role when several sounds are used. Default is 100.

−h filename [modulator options]

The absolute volume will be modulated following the curve specified with filename, a normal fms sound file. You may specify modulator options with the prefix h (see fmplay man page, section MODULATOR OPTIONS).

−F filename [modulator options]

The frequency will be modulated following the curve specified with filename, a normal fms sound file. You may specify modulator options with the prefix F (see fmplay man page, section MODULATOR OPTIONS).

filename

Path to a fms sound file; may be specified as an absolute or relative path or as a filename in the fms shared sound directory (checked in this order). If no existing filename is specified, a sine wave will be taken as default.

The program is documented by the fms documentation available from http://ccteam.de/projekte/fms_html.
